Callisham Cross Campsite - Yelverton - DevonCallisham Cross Campsite is owned and administered by the Scout Districts of Plymouth and is available for local and visiting Scout Groups. It is ideally situated as a Base Camp for exploring Dartmoor and is convenient for visits to Plymouth, South Devon and Cornwall. The campsite affords magnificent views across Dartmoor. A nearby church all can provide alternative accommodation should emergency conditions occur during a Pack Holiday. If you intend to go walking on Dartmoor a current Authorisation for Hillwalking is required. Warden - Mr. W. Foster. 01752 705330 Cost - £0.85 per person Location - Within the Dartmoor National Park. 1 mile SE of Yelverton and approximately 9.5 miles from Plymouth City Centre, Map Reference - SX532 667 Access - Yelverton is on the A386 between Plymouth and Tavistock. Facilities - The campsite consists of two large fields sheltered from the SW prevailing winds, and with a tap for water supply. There is an on-site facility for emptying chemical toilets, but these should be brought with you, or alternatively we have two toilet tents & two chemical toilets available for hire at a nominal fee. Please ensure water stop-cock is switched off before departure. It is recommended that cooking be by gas, paraffin or similar as firewood is extremely limited. Dead wood can be collected from adjoining woods but only in the marked off area. On no account may axes or saws be taken or used in the woods. The National Trust will prosecute any offenders. Public Transport : - The nearest British railway station is at Plymouth. There is a frequent Bus Service from Yelverton to Plymouth and Tavistock and a limited service to various Dartmoor location (Further information can be obtained from Plymouth City Bus on 01752 222221 or Western National on 01752 222555).
